FAQs

Q.How are my training methods different than other forms of fitness training?

A. I offer a complete package in health and fitness. I specialise in natural kinetic body movements and motor skills using your body as one unit, the way your body works in nature. This means whole body fitness using kettlebells, TNT cables, medicine balls, Jungle Gym / gymnastic rings, sledgehammer training and many other things thrown into the mix, giving you many advantages. I can even teach you how to do a handstand; learn to be a kid again and bring back the FUN into training. I’ll work on your correct body alignment first to help rid the body of tightness and pain. Then you’ll be putting your body through its full range of motion and extending its range as you progress. Personal Training sessions are maximised from beginning to end for optimal gain, teaching recovery and restoration after hard workouts allowing you to achieve incredible goals. You’ll enjoy the  sweat and you’ll enjoy the journey. It can never be underestimated what this can do to all other areas of your life. For nutrition I advocate the use of nutrient rich whole foods rather than relying on animal by-products or expensive and worthless supplements. It comes down to three simple truths;  Challenging exercise, good nutrition and a stress free lifestyle.

Q.What is “Bodyweight Training”?

A. This is when you use your own bodyweight with or without resistance to exercise, building natural strength – the type of strength you can actually use, for instance: Playing sports, playing with your children and other activities that life demands.

Q.Will I get “big” and “bulky” by working out this way?

A. If you are committed, you will get an athletic build, adding lean muscle while incinerating body fat. Essentially you will be training for performance, skill and enjoyment. You will be focusing on improving your physical health the way it’s meant to be improved. An athletic appearance will be a nice side benefit.

Q.What about cardio training?

One of the biggest myths is the idea that cardio exercise is a great way to burn body fat; even doctors have been persuaded by this persuasive myth. Doing cardio exercise with a flawed ‘more is better’ principle, particularly to burn calories, is akin to crash dieting and the results are often the same. Ever noticed the physical aesthetics of a sprinter compared to that of a long distance runner? No need for me to tell you which one looks strong, healthy and full of vitality. Instead of boring cardio you will be training smarter using high intensity, efficient exercises.  So, you spend less time in exercise, the exercise you do is far more effective and you end up with far superior results. When do you want to start?

Q.What about weight loss?

A. If I told you I could make you look and feel 10 times better, but you would actually have to gain some weight, what would you say? You won’t be worrying about what the scales say because you will be fit, strong, healthy and confident. Fitness is not about what you weigh, this can, and will, hold you back. If you want to get fit it’s about lifestyle changes, do not get sucked into the “weight-loss” mentality. I tell my clients “how you feel is what is important“. Forget the bathroom scales, forget weight loss as a goal. If the focus is on health, fitness and strength then fat loss is a done deal.

Q.What about diet?

A. Far too many trainers break down food into its component parts such as protein, carbs and fat, then try to give you a program of what the correct percentages are; this is not based on reality. Instead you will be learning the true meaning of food and you will view it as a complete organic whole for optimal health, energy, fitness and fat loss. There is only one ‘diet’. It starts at the top with foods that are high in nutrients and ends at the bottom with foods that are low in nutrients. It’s a spectrum of nutrition and you decide where you want to be on that line.

Q.What if I’ve never really worked out before, is Kick Ass Fitness suitable?

A. Yes! Workouts are broken down into skill levels and progressive exercises. You won’t be using restrictive machines; instead the focus will be on methods of training that involve natural movements with resistance training. I will help motivate you to discover and develop your strength, mobility and skill, level by level allowing you to continually progress and move forward. This is your journey. It is going to be simple, effective, direct and focused on you.

Q.Should I warm up before working out?

A. Yes! I encourage a meaningful dynamic 10 minute warm up to prepare for each workout and to warm the body and mobilise the joints. This will prep you for the workout and decrease the chance of injuries. You will not, however, be wasting your time doing junk fitness such as static stretches or “light aerobics”. Just think how much fitter you’ll get just by taking this approach?

Q.What about equipment?

A. I will be able to help you set up and design your own ‘gym’ at home using my recommended equipment. Most of these products are available via my on-line shop:-   Click here to go to the Kick Ass Fitness online store
